Limited space available for upcoming Grief & Loss Group

When someone dies, an estimated nine loved ones are left behind. Grandparents. Parents. Siblings. Friends. There is a wave of impact that crashes down. For some, it feels like a tsunami that hits with a crash. For others, it might just feel constant, wave after wave that never lets up.

When it comes to grief and loss, it’s not about powering through and comparing yourself to others. It’s about treating yourself with grace and compassion and allowing yourself the space to heal.

Registration is open for the Spring Grief & Loss Group at Some Other Solutions. This six week session will take place on Thursday evenings from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. The cost is $500 per person.

Counselling for Anxiety

One in four adults will experience an anxiety disorder at one point in their life, according to the Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada. A very common form of a mental illness, there are many different forms ranging from phobias and panic to social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Anxiety disorders are treatable with help from your family doctor and counselling support. Counsellors can help you identify triggers, teach relaxation strategies and mindfulness skills.

March is National Social Work Month, so let’s meet our two Registered Social Workers.

JUDITH FRIESEN, MC, CCC, RSW, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLOR

Judith has more than 30 years’ of experience in Human services including, foster care, adoptions, life transition issues, youth at risk, and trauma. She has also worked with rural communities as a school counsellor. Her areas of focus include: PTSD, post-traumatic stress, child and youth, life transitions, stress, and relationships. She uses the following approaches: Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Family systems, strength and attachment based. She has a Masters of Counselling (MC), is a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC), and is a Registered Social Worker (RSW).

PAULA CAINES, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLOR

A registered social worker with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Paula has been practicing in Fort McMurray for more than 20 years and has a passion for the therapeutic process. She supports clients on their life journey in dealing with mental health struggles, life transitions, family issues and more. Paula offers a person-centred, non-judgemental approach using a variety of modalities including Emotionally Focused, Cognitive Behavioural, EMDR, and Mindfulness-based approaches. She is a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and offers assessment and recovery support services for those who struggle with substance use/abuse.
