United Way campaign is officially underway!

The United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo is a huge supporter of the work we do at Some Other Solutions and we are excited to join them for their annual campaign.

On the weekend, the campaign officially kicked off with an opportunity for our community to learn about local initiatives and hear from a variety of partner agencies. We all have one common goal: to build a stronger, more cohesive community.

Mental Illness Awareness Week: Oct. 2-9

We are excited to join the community to recognize Mental Illness Awareness Week, taking place October 2-9.

Join us for a Walk for Mental Illness Awareness on Monday, October 3 at noon! We’ll start at the Provincial Building and it will end at the CMHA office on Manning Ave. This is a dog friendly walk!

Mental illness vs. Mental health: what’s the difference?

One in three Canadians will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. Even if you aren’t directly affected, you can be impacted indirectly through a friend or family member.

What’s important to remember is that mental illness and mental health are not the same thing. We encourage everyone to read and share one of our SOS articles that helps highlight the difference.

Supporting our children and youth

Our children will grow into the future leaders and mentors of our community. Making a positive impact on our youth today, will empower them for the future.

Family counselling: when it matters

Families fight about all manner of issues. It’s a normal part of being in a relationship. Finances, illness, infidelity, life transitions, job loss, blending of families are just a few of the areas that tend to lead to larger conflicts.

Where it becomes more challenging is when arguments become overly heated and more frequent. Our counsellors will help you explore your difficulties in a non-judgemental, safe, confidential and caring environment.
