SOS shifts to national crisis line on Nov. 30

At Some Other Solutions, we are always looking at ways to improve service and support for residents of Fort McMurray and ensure our resources are being used effectively.

With that in mind, we are pleased to share that SOS will be supporting the national, unified mental health crisis hotline that launches across Canada on November 30, 2023.

988 - the national mental health hotline - will provide free texting or calling for Canadians struggling with mental health. The crisis line will be operated through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

For residents of Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo, the shift to the national service brings a level of consistency and experience. Jason King, Executive Director of Some Other Solutions, says it was an easy decision to embrace the new national hotline. 

“We want to ensure that no matter who calls and when, they have immediate access to an exceptional level of care. Whether they are at home in Fort McMurray, working remotely, or on holidays back east, the phone number is the same and the service will be the consistent,” says King.

Grief Group starts Thursday, Nov. 23

LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE! There is limited space available in our Fall/Winter Grief Loss Group that starts on Thursday, Nov. 23.

Our Grief & Loss groups are presented by Canadian Certified Counsellors and Registered Social Workers. Our groups emphasize the processing of grief, understanding complex emotions, building peer support, and developing self-compassion in grief recovery.

Individuals that would like to attend a Grief & Loss group must register and attend all sessions. Each group has a maximum of 10 participants.

Out in the community

November is half over and we are actively out in the community to support our neighbours. Recently we spent time at the Keyano College Health Fair to provide resources and information around mental health supports in our community.
