Join us to #supportmentalhealth in Wood Buffalo

In the last 18 months, Some Other Solutions supported more than 830 pro bono counselling sessions with help from government grants. Those grants have expired, but we are committed to maintaining counselling support for everyone in our community, regardless of age or income.

We are inviting our community to join us in a movement to #supportmentalhealth in the Wood Buffalo region with donations to help maintain the program.

Adults, youth, and children - people of all ages in our community are struggling with stress and anxiety as we head into the fall. We are getting more requests from parents looking for ways to support their children and from adults who have hit a breaking point. Counselling is an important tool for mental health in our community, for individuals of all ages, and we do not want income level to dictate whether people can access support.

There are two ways to help.

You can make a direct donation to Some Other Solutions through our website.

Or, consider helping yourself AND others at the same time. For every full-fee counselling session, we can provide one pro bono counselling session. Your insurance-covered counselling session will not only give you the mental health support you need, but it immediately allows SOS to provide pro bono care to others.

Back to school with Some Other Solutions

Our children and youth are back in classrooms and that means we are too! Some Other Solutions is an active partner and collaborator with schools in Fort McMurray and the surrounding areas.

Through mentorship programs, mindfulness workshops and more, we continue to work with the school system to bring mental health support right into the schools.

Stay connected with our Child and Youth department and watch for upcoming dates of programs for school-aged children.

Self-compassion resources available online

If you followed us on social media in late August, you would have seen our focus on self-compassion and body positivity. To support our community on that topic, we’ve also added even more resources to the SOS website.

From self-compassion exercises to cultivating compassion in your life and a self-care wheel, check out the Mental Health section in the SOS Resource Centre to get access to reputable sources.
