SOS Annual General Meeting is Nov. 28

The community is invited to join us at the 2022 Annual General Meeting for Some Other Solutions on Monday, November 28 at 6 pm. We will provide an update on the organization from the past year.

Registration is not required and light refreshments will be served.

Supporting children and youth in our community

We have seen the pressure our young people are facing and our SOS Child and Youth team is working hard to give them the support they need.

In addition to the mentorship programs, the Child and Youth team has developed a number of presentations designed to empower young people to develop resilience, self-confidence, and positive mental wellness to meet life’s challenges.

Presentations are designed to cover a variety of topics including:

• Self-harm 

• Honesty 

• Social media 

• Stress management 

• Mental health matters 

• Friendship

Priority issues in the mental health care system

With the stigma surrounding mental illness, far too many people who would benefit from accessing important services often feel too much shame to ask for help. 

And while attitudes towards mental health have improved in recent years, there is still much work to be done to help reduce the stigma.

The Mood Disorders Society of Canada released findings in October from a national survey taken between July 15 and August 7 to identify priority issues within the Canadian mental health care system. Close to 2,000 individuals responded.
