Board Role
SOS board members must provide a multifaceted and balanced approach. They are responsible for ensuring decisions are made with the knowledge and awareness of societal benefits and impacts. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience and knowledge in the following:
An understanding of the not for profit and charitable landscape inclusive of participant-centered approaches is a must, with experience gained from the not-for-profit sector an asset.
Actively seek opportunities, partners, potential sponsors, and donors in your community to support fund development and initiatives to advance SOS’s mission.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
A willingness to participate actively in board meetings and committee work.
Passionate about SOS’s mission and vision and act as an ambassador for its programs in your sphere of influence.
Board Responsibilities
Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.
Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year, if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.
Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Some Other Solutions.
Time Commitment
The Board of Directors meets monthly in person at the SOS office, with its Annual General Meeting occurring in November. Board and committee meetings are a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. Board members are expected to take part in the monthly meetings for approximately two (2) hours in addition to leading and participating in various other committees.
